Herbs Birthday Bash
Celebrating 2 years
On September 19th Herbs turns 2! We've decided to celebrate this with a large themed contest, and what better theme than our roots; Resident Evil! Members will take part in several contests and earn points, however this time around members won't be participating in contests individually, but as a team!

Our teams will be divided into two main groups; Team STARS and Team Umbrella. Any members wishing to participate have the option of choosing which team they want to be apart of, and also have the option of temporarily changing their name to fit a Resident Evil character. Anyone on Team STARS could be any protagonist in the game (so they don't necessarily have to be STARS members) and Team Umbrella could be any antagonist in the game, including enemies (Nemesis, Licker, etc).

The contests will vary between trivia, writing contests, graphic contests, scavenger hunts and much more. The great thing about it is, everyone can still participate. Your strength can be another persons weakness, so when participating in groups everything will even out. You can pull your weight in contests you're strong at, and help out the best you can in contests you might not be able to do. If you're not too knowledgeable about Resident Evil, we still welcome you to join because you never know where a team could benefit you! If you're good at writing or graphics, you'd be an asset to either team whether you know a lot about Resident Evil or not, because the other members of the group can guide you!

This will last up to several weeks, and at the end whichever team has the most points will win and each member of the team will earn a prize!

Herbalicious!
First off, I'd like to thank everyone for their activity, posts and contributions because we've just made it to 30,000 posts! As promised, a new them has been added called "Herbalicious" (designed by me, and a huge thanks goes out to Delirium for the coding of this theme!); it's a light theme that once again brings back the herb icon as seen in a few of our other themes. I decided to go with a mix of light gray, black and a lime-ish green because it's overall easy on the eyes and a mix between dark and light. But, if you don't like the colour (the green), you can vote between the following colours and whichever colour gets the most votes will eventually be added! (If you want to vote, you have to post!)

The Prize Booth
We've been discussing a better way to organize the prize booth, including the addition of the amount of points you have been added to your mini profile, so you don't forget that you have them! We're also brainstorming more ways you can earn points, and more ways you can spend 'em. If you have any ideas for either, please let us know. The more ideas we get, the better it will be for your guys. If you're a roleplayer, you'll be pleased to hear that we're adding lots of new ways you can gain points by roleplaying! If you're not a roleplayer, maybe this will encourage you to try it out! ;]

Overall, I hope you like the new theme and the changes we'll be making to the prize booth. And congrats to Herbs for making it to 30,000 posts! =D Onward to 40,000 ;]

NEWSLETTER #1
Welcome to our first ever newsletter! Here you can expect to read various updates around the board, recent contests, topics, stats, and an in depth look into our roleplays and community! The newsletter will be split up into three main categories; Community, Gaming, and Roleplay: and each will give you a variety of information about what's going on! You can expect to see this newsletter every couple weeks to a month! A quick overview of what you can find in this newsletter is as follows:

COMMUNITY
So, what's going on in the Herbs community? To start us off we just past 350 members and we're quickly approaching the 30,000 post mark! With this post mark, we're planning on implementing another theme for all members to use that could eventually be made in more than one colour. A revamping of some old themes is also being considered for the future, so you might see one of your favourite themes be revamped!
Two contests have just closed but not to worry, you didn't miss out - new ones have already been posted! Congratulations to .Razz for winning the Caption Contest #3, and to Deimos for winning the Avatar of the Week for the second week in a row! Be sure to check out our new contests to win a bragging signature and prize points, which could earn you various prizes whether it's spicing up your username or a custom graphic!
A new community survey has also been posted, so be sure to vote and voice your opinion because we want to try making Herbs a better place for everyone!

GAMING
With the E3 2010 Conference there has been a lot of buzz about the new and refreshed consoles and the many new games that are coming along with it. If you're looking for a variety of E3 coverage, come check it out! And if you've heard about something that hasn't been posted, we would appreciate you letting us know!
One game that has caught the attention of many of our Resident Evil fans is Resident Evil: Revelations. If you want to discuss the story, what you'd like to see, or the possibility of returning or new characters, visit Herbs to find the details on what you might not know already!
Our popular RE: Caption This! is well on it's way and will be closing soon, so be sure to get your caption in! And congratulations to Deimos who won RE: Caption This #9. Our "Who Would Win" discussion also makes a return in the gaming category, but this time it will feature more than just Reisdent Evil characters. To ease us into the new "WWW", the new match up is Jill Valentine vs Regina from Dino Crisis. So, who would win? Let us know!

ROLEPLAY
Chaos City:
Two separated brothers have finally reunited but not under the best of circumstances; both of the survivors they have been travelling with haven't made it easy on them. Kaleigh Lane who had been travelling with the youngest brother is on the verge of discovering the secret he's been hiding from her since the outbreak. Michelle Jacobs, a reporter finally just recovered after being attacked by the same spiders we see in the Resident Evil games, and isn't about to let her guard down again. Meanwhile at the RPD... Young Casey tries to convince a doctor who has lost everything that life is worth living, but the sudden loss of his loved ones knocked a few screws loose so he isn't all quite there. Will he leave his experiments and research he's been conducing on the zombies since the outbreak? Or will he continue on... alone? Rus and Mat also fight for their freedom within the RPD. Mall of the Dead:
The survivors have now split into three groups; some have gone to collect supplies to paint the top of the roof of the mall in hopes that SOMEONE will notice their desperate cry for help. A small group of remains at the food court, one recently joining the group in the mall, while another stays there injured but NOT by a zombie. Are the survivors even safe with eachother? Which brings us to the third group; a trained assassin, an escaped convict, and the head security at the mall who have recently run into a Z, an unkown individual who has seeminly escaped from an insane asylum. Coming Soon:
If enough interest is shown, a Resident Evil Outbreak roleplay, a Liberty City (GTA) roleplay, and a SWAT roleplay may be on the horizon!

We've added another theme to the selector; Herbsidote, referencing the blue herbs found in Resident Evil that act as an antidote when poisoned It's a dark gray/black and blue theme, and a recoloured version of a theme request I did awhile back. Though I designed the theme and graphics, it is not custom to Herbs as it will be released on Graphic Force shortly. It's exclusive to a few forums for the time being; including Herbs!

Warning: This theme is not very friendly to small resolutions due to the large side borders and header. If you're using Google Chrome, one of the submenu buttons (members/calendar/FAQ/search) will not appear.

It's just another option for members, as all of our previous themes are still in the selector!

The Community Survey brought up some interesting points and members wanted to see more loyal members, and further in the discussion it was suggested that we expanded our gaming section to appeal to a larger audience. We've done just that; as you can see we have a new category where you can discuss everything and anything to do with gaming. We're hoping the category will show newcomers and guests that we're not JUST about Resident Evil; but we're a friendly, steady community where everyone is welcome!

We've started fresh, so all of the old topics minus a few recent ones, have been hidden and the forums are clean of any very old topics. So if you had a topic made that you wish to post again, feel free to!

Stepping Down and Stepping Up

Kylie Steps Down
As I'm sure you're aware, the forum has been slow the last few weeks due to personal reasons on the administrative side. I have been vacationing in England for the last three weeks, and while I was away Kylie made the decision that she would like to step down from administrator due to personal reasons. I think the lack of activity from the administration and staff has caused this forum to slip into a very slow state. I'm back from England however, and I don't want to see this forum slip away.

I'd also like to thank Kylie for all of the work and effort she's put into the forum. She will certainly be missed

Congratulations to Serenity!
Long before Kylie stepped down, the staff were discussing the promotion of another Legend - however with Kylie retiring, I feel that through these slow weeks this individual has stayed dedicated to the forum and maintained being the top poster throughout. She's very dedicated, loyal, and an all around great member to have on the board and I'd like to welcome her onto the staff team now; Serenity.

Staff Applications
With that, I'm also opening applications to scout out other people who may be interested in having a position here at Herbs. There are no requirements to apply as this is just to see who would be interested. These applications do not guarantee anyone will be promoted, so please keep that in mind. I'm not going to make any kind of format to fill out, just PM ME with why you think you should be staff, why you are interested, what you can do to help Herbs, etc. Positions available are Forum Moderation and Roleplay Moderation.

Stepping Up
There will certainly be some changes coming, including some changes to the roleplay that will hopefully pick up the pace, and some changes to the staff. I really hope members will also take the initiative to keep posting and help bring Herbs back to life If anyone has any suggestions, comments, ideas, etc - feel free to post them here.

The roleplay category has now been expanded with the edition of the widescale roleplay; Chaos City. This roleplay is based on Resident Evil, and is based in Raccoon City. You can find the plot here and more information in the main forum. If you have any comments, questions, concerns or anything you want to discuss - you can do so in that forum.

The roleplay offers premade topics, such as The Park or Abandoned Hospital, but you are also free to create your own. Whether it's a topic with a single purpose, or a topic open for anyone else to use and come and go.

Please be sure to read all of the information, as we have implemented a 'news broadcast' idea that will effect the entire roleplay, including; the time of day, weather, current enemies, etc.

All you have to do is name a member for each of the following categories; member, legend, and staff are all game for the categories (besides the few specific categories like next staff/legend and best moderator). As you can see, we've added back the old Holiday Herburban theme and revamped Herbsvile with a little taste of winter Expect similar contests to what we usually run, but themed, as well as a Secret Santa like we did last year which was quite successful

I'm too tired to do all my fancy formatting right now, but I thought I might announce a few changes. You might have already noticed them. First of all, the RP section has been expanded to accommodate the new "Run!Zombie" game, which will be a new and much larger story than you've seen at Herbs before. To run the this new game and eventually help run other things, Rain has been hired as our RP moderator. She comes to us from an extensive background of Resident Evil knowledge and foruming, and she will be helping us grow Herbs into a more active community.

Also helping us grow, we've decided to start an affiliate program. As you can see at the bottom of the board, it's already up, but the official details of it and the application process will be posted soon. We will be taking other steps to further our advertising attempts such as creating a twitter account for Herbs, trying to reach new audiences, and by fixing up the place to the best of our ability.
