I'll be honest. I miss the way things used to be. My issue with Herbs ever since it's rebirth has always been-- what I feel to be the over-excessive nature of the staff when it comes to acting professional. I understand a certain aura of responsibility has to be established to hold the respect of your members, but I can't help but get the inkling that the attitude has rubbed off on most if not all the regulars here. (The Apple Inn can probably best exemplify this.) To me, I would relate it to the Alyssa:C Bot stereotype that would constantly speed run outbreak vh (for those who aren't familiar with the game, this is not fun at all.) In other words, it just seems to me like we're on a rail here; just going through the motions to kill time. I'd say the place is lacking flavor, or a unique personal feel to it like the original Herbs had; save for the Museum forum (but that's a given, due to it's artistic nature). That's good and fine for some people, as I understand the admins here are trying to garner more members through ratings received from holding a sound board, but... Yeah. Thought I should say that. Honestly, can't say I miss the old Herbs that much. I agree that it had more personality and a more developed community but I'm surprised you bring up 'staff acting too professional' when a decent chunk of what I remember from the last Herbs was arguments stemming from the way staff acted; whether it was closing topics too soon, acting professional and overusing 'moderator' images (like watch your spam, topic closed, don't double post, etc ). If anything, I think we're a lot more lenient this time around =/ Unless I'm completely not understanding what you're trying to get at XD If it's someone in particular, maybe discuss it with them? Otherwise, any specific examples? :P Edited by Sarah, May 30 2009, 08:09 PM.

Hey, that toucan was cool. :# I digress, perhaps it's not just the staff thing, but I feel it contributes to the total sum of it all. One might say this is simply because I'm no longer staff, and am seeing things from a different perspective, but when I look at some of the stuff here I feel like I'm on a tech support chat, or something. It's not as casual as it once felt, and to be honest it seems kinda forced. I have no idea how anything constructive could come about this though, in all reality. I'm just puffing out hot air at this point. |

Ha :P Yeah, I thought the images were pretty nifty. I do agree with you though, completely. The discussion seems forced and somewhat dull; the staff are always trying to post new topics to make up for the lack of discussion, but when it's always staff posting the topics it can seem rather lifeless and boring. If you look through the forums, it's pretty clear who's making most them :P I also think there were far more active members the first time around, this time we only have a handful of regulars. We try to do a lot of advertising, but it's just not reaching the right people. Plus, the first Herbs was open 3-4 years ago (around that) - things just aren't the same anymore XD |

This. A lot of things have changed with me and others, so I don't think it's fair to compare the new Herbs to the old one. Still though, I think it's a valid observation. Things have gotten rather impersonal here, but I don't think that means we're necessarily doing anything wrong. Even though I would say I've matured, my personality has always been monotone and bland. People just don't see it because I hide it well with dramatic wording and random thoughts; but now that people like citruschild, i am chii, and Cowboy aren't here; people are seeing my dull side more clearly because I'm making more than my fair share of threads. Another thing that I do is behave off of other people, and I also can't do that without contributions from regular members. I really believe that members make the board... Unfortunately, a lot of people aren't interested in boards as much anymore due to the social networking sites, but I've come to accept that and take Herbs for what it is now. But if you have any suggestions, we're all ears. |

Suppose I've also forgot that the outbreak games were a large piece of kindling responsible for keeping herb's light burning, and with that community gone, it's only natural that ours dim out as well. Maybe something else will someday absorb the board as a whole, giving us all something more tangible to participate in together, instead of simple little questionnaires and polls. :# Edited by The Doctor, Jun 1 2009, 04:25 PM.

Honestly, I think the "blandness" is due to lack of traffic. I wish I knew of better ways to pick up new members. Too bad there's no lobby for RE5. Edited by Eric, Jun 1 2009, 08:03 PM.

Huh, I remember when the rp's filled up fast, topics used to be flooded and the board used to skyrocket. There was one day when I had just finished my last post for an rp that day. I go back on tommorow morning, and all of a sudden the topic had just gone 15 pages! I used to laugh at that, because there were way too many people rping. But it was always a good thing because it showed how much people cared. Not just for the rp forums but the other forums itself. The staff there tended to act like members, not just admins or moderators, like another face in the crowd. Those were the good times. Now herbs is a little small. But tbh I think it wouldn't get to the height of what it used to be, if it does then ill be amazed. I'm still trying my best to bring some of the old faces back. I don't bug them all the time though. I just try and make them remember the good ol times, and the few vets here we have left. |

Herbs is much better this time around. The themes of a higher quality, the stories are written better, the moderation is better, and the attention to detail in general is just much better. The problem is the traffic, and I would blame that on the social networking sites. Zetaboards/Invisionfree in particular has been hit hard by this. |

With all of five people participating. I would consider it, if I didn't feel one particularly uncreative person didn't ruin everything he came into contact with. |

Thanks, I try my best. Anyways isn't there still a bunch of competing Resident evil boards like city of the dead and such? It also didn't help that herbs was down a good part of 2 years or so and I wondered at first how long this place is going to be around. This place caters to such a small demographic that it would be hard to find membership to really make it seem like there's a lot of traffic. I'd say on message board that generally out of 100 members only 10 - 30 of those post of a regular basis. |

I wouldn't even consider City of the Dead a competing board. It's like a corpse over there that twitches every now and then. |

That bad huh? Well I suppose the death of Resident Evil Outbreak and file 2 really just killed these ( I included this board since a lot of members are from that game) kind of boards membership. I still think we should all email and plead to capcom to release the server info so someone can at least attempt to putting one up so people can play their games, I don't think that's too much to ask for. Crapcom doesn't even have to foot the bill to their own game which I firmly believe is bullshit regardless of how old a game is they should still be supporting their products. For console games I prefer games have hosting like Halo which the games get hosted off of someone's xbox with the best connection. |
